Make Meaning

We are in the final steps for the business plan of the V2V Network. This document will guide us for the next 2 years. Planning requires great effort and we are learning a lot in this process.

Starting a project is not simple. Telling people about your plans can be even more complicated. Dreams and ideas are the essence of every good project, but they must grow with structure. On this topic, I saw a video presentation from Guy Kawasaki, called The Art of The Start, which I strongly recommend.

If you are thinking of creating something new in your community, your job, or even have an idea for a business, you must make meaning, says Kawasaki. For him, “among the meanings of ‘meaning’ are to:

- Make the world a better place.
- Increase the quality of life.
- Right a terrible wrong.
- Prevent the end of something good.”

What is really interesting is that he is not talking about volunteer projects or how to create a non profit organization, he is talking about business. And he says that “goals such as these are a tremendous advantage as you travel down the difficult path ahead (…) The causation of great organizations is the desire to make meaning”.

It gives me a lot of hope on the future to see such vision getting a higher attention on the business world. Omidyar Network, our seed funder, is another example of this new trend. In their homepage is written: “We exist for one single purpose: So that more and more people discover their own power to make good things happen.”

At our end here, we are learning to tell the story of our dream for the V2V Network, in a structured way. Tough task, but very rewarding! We never saw our idea so concrete!

If you want to make your idea meaningful and concrete, we hope you will be able to find some fellows to collaborate here inside V2V!
